‘Horizons’ is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected and that it complies with its obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 the Electronic Communications Directive (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 and other applicable laws, rules and regulations.

This website is provided and maintained by Bamboo Medical Communications Ltd on behalf of the British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA) who are bound by the policy as set out below. This policy applies to personal information (as defined below) collected from the Horizons online resources and communications that display a link to this policy.

This policy does not apply to third-party online resources to which Horizons websites may link, where Horizons does not control the content or the privacy practices of such resources.

The term “personal information” as used throughout this policy, applies to any information or set of information that identifies or that is used by or on behalf of Horizons to identify an individual.

Information we collect from you
Horizons collects personal information and other data that you may enter into forms or data fields on our websites or online resources. Such information may include, but not be limited to, contact information (such as your name, GMC number, organisation, email address, telephone number, preferences and password). Horizons may also collect information about you that you provide by responding to our questions and surveys or through your use of online and downloadable resources that we provide.

Consistent with the purposes identified and standards set within this policy and other applicable privacy notices that have been provided, in some cases Horizons consolidates and uses personal information that individuals share with Horizons through various services and channels, such as the telephone, surveys, websites and other online resources and communications, in order to enhance the quality of services that we offer.

Information collected from public or third party sources
Horizons may collect personal information about UK health care professionals who register on our websites from public or third party information sources to verify their professional credentials and identity. In some cases, we may augment our existing user databases with information from third parties. Some of this information may be personal information, such as change of postal address information.

Information collected from your computer or other electronic device
We collect information about your computer or other electronic device when you visit our websites and use our online resources. This information may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, domain name, browser type, date and time of your request and information provided by tracking technologies, such as cookies and single-pixel tags. If you use a mobile device to access our websites and online resources, we also may collect information about your device, such as your device ID and device type, as well as usage information about your device and your use of our mobile websites and other mobile resources.

Uses made of information
Horizons collects personal information online as necessary to enable individuals to register for, customise and personalise certain of Horizons’ online resources and communications. Horizons uses personal information collected online to provide products, services and features and other resources that individuals have requested; for example, educational literature and related information about pharmaceutical business, products, email programs, tools, questionnaires, and surveys. Horizons may analyse personal information collected online to identify and offer additional services and promotions that we believe you might find interesting. Horizons evaluates use of some online resources and communications with non-identifiable or aggregate information only. Horizons may also use personal information to audit its online resources for authorised access and security.

How does Horizons protect the privacy of children?
In general, Horizons websites are not directed at children and most of the online services that we offer are designed for individuals who are 18 years of age or older.

Securing your personal information
Horizons will take reasonable steps to protect personal information as it is transmitted from your computer to our online resources and servers, as well as to protect personal information in its possession from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction. It is your personal responsibility to secure your own copies of your passwords and related access codes for our online resources.

Horizon will only process personal data and act in accordance with instructions from the user and the applicable data protection laws in the UK and for the purpose of performing our obligations and/or exercising Horizon rights under the terms agreed with the user. Horizon has in place, and undertakes to maintain throughout the duration of the service, appropriate technical and organisational measures against the unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal data, and against the accidental loss, destruction or disclosure of, or damage to, personal data, including ensuring that any personal data that is to be disposed of is done so securely, and Horizon will take all responsible steps to ensure compliance with these measures. Horizon has in place, and undertakes to maintain throughout the duration of the service, adequate and appropriate data security programmes and procedures to ensure that unauthorised persons do not have access to the personal data or any equipment used to process personal data.

Horizon carries out appropriate data protection training, and where applicable, suitable security checks on all staff who are given access to personal data. Horizon will not transfer personal data outside of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) unless it has taken such measures as are necessary to ensure the transfer is in compliance with the GDPR. Horizon will immediately report to the user, in writing, any security breaches or other problems relating to personal data, providing full details of the breach or problem. The user reserves the right to undergo regular inspections or checks to monitor that Horizon is processing personal data in an appropriate manner.

Horizon has implemented and maintains appropriate security controls to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of any user data that Horizon has access to. Where user data is transmitted across a network or stored on any device, Horizon ensures that the level of protection is consistent with the confidentiality and sensitivity of the data. Horizon ensures that access to the data is limited to those employees who need access to the data to meet Horizon obligations to user. Any staff with access to user information are aware of their responsibilities not to disclose, use, modify, store, copy or adapt that information unless expressly required for the purposes of complying with Horizon obligations to the user. Horizon has in place methods for detecting and dealing with breaches of security including a procedure for investigating and remedying information security breaches. Horizon has secure methods of disposal of unwanted and/or unnecessary data.

Use of cookies
A cookie is a small text file containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies are sent back to the website when you return to it: this is useful because it allows the website to recognise your device. These cookies record information about your online preferences and allow Horizons to improve your experience on its sites. Horizons does not share any personal information gathered by the cookies with third parties.

We may contact you for follow up information and may share your inquiry with other individuals within Horizons or working on behalf of Horizons that are responsible for functions related to the subject of your inquiry. Except where required by law, Horizons cannot ensure a response to questions or comments regarding topics unrelated to this policy or Horizons’ privacy practices.
